Science Shops are NOT the usual kind of shop!
They are small units that carry out research with and on behalf of local community groups. These services are provided free or at very low cost. Although the Welsh Science Shops network is fairly new, Science Shops are well established in lots of countries across Europe and the rest of the world.
For a Science Shop, “science” can mean almost any topic that can be approached using a logical and methodical approach. Science Shops carry out projects on topics such as the environment, health, social problems, and even history and law. We also produce a range of easy-to-use leaflets covering some of the many topics raised by our projects.
Science Shop Wales employs a team of trained researchers, and University students and their tutors also help us to carry out some of our research. We believe that it is important that the staff and students of Welsh universities use their learning and resources to help their local communities deal with real problems. Find out more...
NID y math arferol o siopau yw Siopau Gwyddoniaeth! O ran Siop Wyddoniaeth, gall “gwyddoniaeth” olygu bron unrhyw bwnc y gellir ei drafod yn defnyddio ymagwedd resymegol a threfnus. Bydd Siopau Gwyddoniaeth yn cynnal prosiectau ar bynciau megis yr amgylchedd, iechyd, problemau cymdeithasol, a hyd yn oed hanes a’r gyfraith. Rydym hefyd yn cynhyrchu nifer o bamffledi hawdd eu defnyddio sydd yn trafod rhai o’r pynciau niferus sy’n deillio o’n prosiectau. Mae Siopau Gwyddoniaeth Cymru yn cyflogi tîm o ymchwilwyr hyfforddedig, a myfyrwyr Prifysgol a’u tiwtoriaid, er mwyn ein helpu i gynnal peth o’n hymchwil.
